About the Tatkins

Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT, and Tracey Boldemann-Tatkin, PhD, AMFT, cofounded the PACT Institute in 2010 to train mental health professionals in PACT, the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy®. The Institute has educated thousands of clinicians nationally and internationally to successfully implement the PACT methodology which was developed by Stan, starting in 2003.

Stan and Tracey also co-lead Wired For Love Couple Retreats — both online and in person across the United States and Europe for couples who want to improve their relationship.

Both Stan and Tracey maintain private practices in Calabasas, California, where their shared passion for helping couples build secure-functioning relationships informs everything they do.

Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT, Co-founder

Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT is a teacher, clinician, researcher, and developer of the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy® (PACT).

Beloved by colleagues and clients alike, Stan is an expert on human behavior and couple relationships. He speaks and teaches around the world on secure-functioning relationships – how to understand them, create them, and support them.

Stan has written dozens of academic articles and six bestselling books – now translated into Spanish, Chinese, Turkish, and Romanian. 

More than 2 million people have tuned in to Stan’s TEDx talk.

 A Therapist’s Therapist. Mental health professionals appreciate his depth of understanding – of both the scientific research and the human condition – and how he integrates that wisdom to form the foundation of the comprehensive principles and methodologies he teaches. The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists CA honored Stan with the Educator of the Year award in 2014.

Scholar, Advancing Psychotherapy. Stan received his BA and masters degrees from Antioch University and doctorate from Ryokan College. He was an assistant clinical professor at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Today, he is on the board of directors of Lifespan Learning Institute and serves as a founding member on Relationships First, a nonprofit organization founded by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt. 

A former president of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Ventura County chapter, Stan is a veteran member of Allan N. Schore’s study group. He’s trained in the Adult Attachment, Facial Action Coding System, and Strange Situation. He was also trained in Self and Object Relations for working with personality disorders through the Masterson Institute. Stan is an experienced facilitator in Vipassana, having trained with Shinzen Young, PhD, in Vipassana meditation. He also trained with David Reynolds, PhD, in two Japanese forms of psychotherapy, Morita and Naikan.

Tracey Boldemann-Tatkin, PhD, AMFT, Cofounder

Tracey Boldemann-Tatkin, PhD, AMFT, has served as the director of various philanthropic family foundations for more than 30 years. In this role, she works with the dynamics and mechanics of families on a daily basis. In addition to her leadership role at the PACT Institute, she has been intimately involved at the ground level of humanitarian efforts worldwide. Tracey’s experience and dedication make her an invaluable asset to our PACT community, impacting individuals, couples, and families.

As a clinician, Tracey works with clients as they navigate relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety, family transitions, and personal growth and development — committed to fostering growth, healing, and connection. Tracey’s work with couples aims to enhance their relationship, repair past ruptures, and increase their connectedness. 

As a parent, Tracey has firsthand experience with the complexities of childhood development and navigating key milestones. Through her work with young people, she has actively encouraged them to engage in public service, demonstrating how such involvement can foster self-esteem and a sense of purpose.

Tracey has dedicated four decades to directing philanthropic family foundations, channeling her passion for humanitarian efforts into meaningful change worldwide. Her work is deeply informed by a sensitivity to family systems.

Her professional journey began with her leadership at SDA Foundation Management in 1984, a role she continues to hold. In 2003, she joined forces with Stan Tatkin, taking on a leadership role that focuses on pioneering therapeutic methodologies. This collaborative effort culminated in her cofounding the PACT Institute in 2010, where she has since played a pivotal role in advancing attachment-based therapy.

Tracey 's academic accomplishments include an MA in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University, an MPA in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from Walden University, and a dual PhD in Nonprofit Management and Leadership and International NGOs from Walden University. She received an MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and completed her internship at the Maple Counseling Center, furthering her expertise in the field of mental health.
